Sustainable wood furniture

DESIGN AND CRAFTSMANSHIP FROM SOUTH TYROL

It takes years, often decades, for a tree to reach its full size before being felled for processing. Exactly as it is found in nature, it arrives at the workbench, and here the traditional woodwork begins. Sketches are made and measurements are taken, then the wood is cut and sanded. With the help of skilled hands, creativity and know-how, a piece of furniture takes shape that will find its place in a home for decades to come. For us, this traditional method is the foundation of furniture production, which is why all of our SLOWLI wood furniture is manufactured by our partner woodworking shop in South Tyrol – with experience, passion and tradition.

WOOD FURNITURE IN ITS PUREST FORM

Not only is wood durable and versatile – it’s also simply beautiful, which is why woodworking has been around for centuries. Whether it’s a solid wood dining table or a small wooden element – this material creates a feeling of naturalness. Although you can find wood furniture made of chipboard or veneer at incredibly low prices, our partner woodworking shop favours producing solid wood furniture according to our slow living philosophy with naturally sourced wood. We deliberately avoid veneers and mass production. The result? Sustainable wood furniture with character that turns a house into a home.

NATURE, OUR MOST IMPORTANT PARTNER

Without nature, there would be no SLOWLI – which is why, together with our partner woodworking shop, we make sure that all of our resources are handled with care. This also gives the resulting furniture its unique charm. And to ensure that the pieces not only decoratively enrich a home, we always attach great importance to functionality in our manufacturing processes. After all, furniture is something to be used every day – if it’s practical, it will be used for years to come.

MORE ABOUT SPRUCE AND PINE

+-

Spruce

SOUTH TYROL’S MOST COMMON CONIFER

Spruce wood furniture will make your home bright and welcoming with its range of colours from yellow to reddish white. The high resin content makes the resin channels visible in the cross-section of the wood, and the fine grain creates a striking structure. As light shines on spruce furniture, it naturally darkens to yellowish-brown.

Spruces grow relatively quickly and can reach a height of up to 60 metres. Due to its rather soft structure, the wood is easy to work with and is used in a variety of ways. Spruce is suitable for furniture, beams, windows and doors, as well as for paper and firewood.

Stone pine

THE ROBUST TREE OF THE HIGH MOUNTAINS

Stone pine is particularly popular because of its essential oils – during processing, the wood is neither oiled nor waxed, ensuring that its characteristic scent is long-lasting even after being turned into furniture. Stone pine is a very light wood, making it the easiest wood to work with in South Tyrol. It is most often used for furniture, carvings or wall panelling.

In addition to its unique scent, stone pine also has a positive effect on the ability to relax, circulation and the quality of sleep, which is why it has earned itself the nickname Queen of the Alps. The coniferous tree, which can grow up to 25 metres high, is accustomed to extreme weather conditions and has adapted to the harsh climate of the high mountains, growing at the timberline of the Alps.

Our partner woodworking shop

A SHORT BIOGRAPHY

Our South Tyrolean partner woodworking shop has been dedicated to the craft of woodworking for 30 years. The small family business is now operated by the second generation. There are only about ten employees who passionately work with wood every day to create sustainable and unique home décor pieces. In particular, the combination of the technical know-how of the younger generation and the decades of experience of the older generation in the family business results in innovative ideas from the most natural materials.
