It’s winter, and it’s freezing outside. You’re sitting on the sofa, a hot cup of tea in hand and a cosy wool blanket keeping you warm. For us, there is hardly any other image that makes us feel so cosy and instantly long for the cold season. This is why wool, as a natural fibre with its wonderful positive properties, is one of our favourite materials at SLOWLI.

CHARACTERISTICS THAT MAKE SHEEP WOOL PRODUCTS SO POPULAR

After the sheep are sheared in spring, the fleece – as the virgin wool is called – is washed and then spun into yarn. This precious natural fibre is particularly soft and well-liked because of its ability to regulate moisture and provide warmth. It can absorb moisture inside while repelling water on the surface. Even when a wool product has absorbed up to a third of its weight in moisture, it will still feel dry to the touch. Thermal regulation occurs as the fibre reflects body heat. In winter, it helps retain body heat; in summer, it shields the body from too much heat.

SUSTAINABLE WOOL FROM SOUTH TYROLEAN SHEEP

Natural wool fibres quickly get rid of any unpleasant odour when placed outside in the fresh air, returning quickly to a neutral scent. In addition, it is much more robust than alternative fibres, which is why wool pillows, blankets and rugs are particularly popular for their durability. Because of all these advantages, wool was already used centuries ago for a variety of purposes – for example, knitting, weaving and sewing on long winter evenings to make artistic and everyday objects that contributed to the livelihood of many people. This tradition has been passed on from generation to generation, and we would also like to carry it on. Even today, wool provides a natural, soothing feeling for mind and body within your home.

The natural sheep wool used by SLOWLI is sourced directly from South Tyrolean shepherds who value the welfare of their sheep. In this way, we can keep our production routes short and at the same time strengthen the regional movement of our resources. With our design, our partner company manufactures products from 100% virgin sheep wool according to tradition.
